What Is Chhath Puja Chaiti

The festival occurs twice a year: 

Chaiti Chhath: once in the month of Chaitra (March-April) called Chaiti Chhath. Chaiti Chhath Puja is performed on the Shashti Tithi of Shukla Paksha of Chaitra maas.

Kartik Chhath: and the other in Kartik (October-November) called Kartik Chhath. Kartik Chhath Puja is performed on the Shashti Tithi of Shukla Paksha of Kartik maas.

Overview Of The Chaiti Chhath Puja Rituals

Let me tell you that Chhath Puja Chaiti. Which lasts for four days, starts with Nahay-Khay. In this, women and men voluntarily observe a Nirjala Vrat (waterless fast) for more than 36 continuous hours. Let us now discuss the overview of the Chaiti Chhath Puja rituals.

Nahay Khay (The first day involves taking a holy bath)

Let me tell you that Chaiti Chhath starts from the Chaturthi date of Chaitra month. It is known as Nahay Khay.  usually in the Ganges, and eating a single meal.

On this day, Vrati or devotees take holy bath. Individuals adopt the path of self-resistance from worldly things. They take a resolution to make the great festival Chhath, which lasts for four days, a success.

Let me tell you that the women who keep fast on the day of Nahay Khay. She takes only one meal in the whole day. This food is pure and pure.

Which contains only gram or moong dal, pumpkin and rice. Onion, garlic, torch and oil etc. are not used in this.

Kharna (On the second day)

The second day of Chhath festival is called Kharna. It is also called Barauna and Lohanda. In Kharna, Chhathi Maiya is worshiped after 6 pm. Special Prasad is prepared in this.

Which has kheer, banana, apple, orange, radish, and roti. devotees fast for the whole day. Which ends with eating prasad (offering) and kheer (rice pudding). The kheer made during the fast of Kharna includes jaggery, sathi rice, milk.

It is made on a new earthen stove. Which is prepared two days before Nahay Khay and dried in the sun.

Sandhya Arghya (Third day is for evening offerings to the setting sun)

Sandhya Arghya is also called Saaj Ki Ghat, Saajhiya Ghat and Astachalgami. Let us tell you that on the third day of Chhath festival.

Women offer Arghya to the setting sun. The setting sun is worshiped in the world only during Chhath festival.

The whole day is spent in preparing dishes and prasad. Thekua is specially made in this. Vratis offer evening arghya or sandhya arghya to complete the day’s rituals.

On this day, fasting people and family members wear new clothes. Gather together on the banks of a nearby river or pond. 

They sit there for two to three hours and sing the song of Chhathi Maiya. Worshiping the altar. Havan is also performed there.

Usha Arghya (Final day involves making morning offerings to the rising sun)

Usha Arghya is also called Bhor ki Ghat, Bhorawa Ghat and Udiyaman. In this, women offer Arghya to the rising sun. With this the Chhath festival ends.

For Usha Arghya, the devotee reaches the river ghat with the entire family at 4 in the morning. Chhathi Maiya is worshiped there. Some devotees wait for the Sun God to rise with prasad in their hands, waist deep in water.

Parna (Completing Chhath festival after eating Prasad)

After Usha Arghya, the devotees worship the deity of their village, Mai Baba, Barham Baba, Well.

After that, she eats Tulsi, etc., jaggery or other Prasad on the regular Muhurta. Which is called Parna. In this, thanks are given to Sun God and Chhathi Maiya for making this great fast successful. They also invite them to come again next year.

According to Panchagam, Kushmanda Mata form is worshiped on the day of Nahay Khay. Skandamata is worshiped on the day of Kharna. Katyayani Mata is worshiped on the day of Sandhya Arghya. 

And on the day of Usha Arghya, Kaalaratri Mata is worshipped. Hence in Chhath Puja chaiti one also gets the blessings of Goddess Skandamata, Kushmanda, Katyayani Kaalaratri.
